Thanks very much. That was what I did as it seemed logical.

I don't have a move counter showing so I think it has to do with the setting that you use as your "base" before modifying it. One of my settings is sudden death with no delay showing but also I don't have a move counter. I used SD1 as the base.

DO NOT have the "halt at end" option turned on. Even worse would be to have the clock beep when time has expired - a fallen flag is up to the players to notice (at least here in the US).

I have seen this situation play out before - the TDs here frequently tell the players to have those options disabled.

I too have a Chronos and if I knew how to disable the "move counter" I would - even though I do know the scoresheet and not the clock are responsible for tracking moves, especially with time controls with 2 or more time controls.

The main reason the move counter on a Chronos clock may not be accurate isn't a design flaw, it's the problem that sometimes humans hit the clocks twice during the same move. Or, they will start the clock just to demonstrate to their opponent how the clock works and not reset the move counter. Those aren't really design flaws.

Which is true, but that's poor design. The count of the number of presses should be part of the display. That way the players can ensue that it's synchronised with the scoresheet.

On the DGT clock, whether the clock stops on detection of a flag fall varies with the option selected. Unless hacked by an arbiter, it's usual behaviour for them to stop on the final control with increment.

I just tested it. Clock stops when the players time runs off. It knows the time limit.

No clock can possibly know when the "end" has been reached.

The reason is that clocks have no MOVE counter.

Clocks do have a BUTTON PRESS counter, but its correlation with the count of moves is imperfect.
Clocks cannot know whether a player forgot to press his clock, or whether confusion caused extra presses.

Hello: Just setting my Chronos clock. The aforementioned option can stop the clock when the time limit is passed or let it count on (negative numbers) - at least that is what I think it does.

Do you know which is the proper setting for tournament play.

Thanks,

Gerry
