I tried 'upgrading' to Windows 10 in September but I was very disappointed, to say the least, and so 'downgraded' back to Win 7 after a week or so. That went pretty well, although I lost the ability to do proper backups.
I thought I'd start a thread about whether it is worth changing from 7 to 10 (we still have 8 months to decide, I suppose) and here are 10 reasons not to:
1. The first thing I noticed that the Win 10 windows are far uglier, they have lost the beautiful rounded edges and transparent Aero look.
2. The Win 10 task-bar is less functional, you can't pin programs to the LHS, and the alphabetical 'all program' list is too long (on Win 7 I have everything grouped together in thematic folders).
3. The hideous dull tiles on the RHS of the Win 10 task-bar look like something from another century.
4. Win 7 is much more stable, lots of people I know have lost their sound, mouse-pad, etc, and have reliability problems since moving to Windows 10 (but see 5. below).
5. With Win 10 you have no control over Windows Updates any more, which means they can alter the OS in any way they want without your agreement, and which also means you cannot undo any changes if it breaks your system.
6. There is no information about what the Win 10 Updates do any more.
7. Microsoft can now access your private details with Win 10 (there are a few telemetry updates for Win 7, too, but you can just uninstall these).
8. In Windows 10 Microsoft will use your bandwidth to send their programs to other computers without telling you.
9. In Windows 10 Microsoft have added the possibility to put adverts directly onto your OS.
10. Windows Media Centre is removed (not such a big deal, but I use it to watch TV).
OK, but there were a couple of things I liked about Windows 10, firstly the new Task Manager is much better than the Win 7 version, and secondly File Explorer looked better, too. On top of that MS claim that there is faster boot times, and a better new way of handling memory, although I personally didn't notice anything going faster when I tried Win 10.
So there is my twopenny-worth, maybe Win 10 has improved recently, maybe other Forum members have a different view?
