I would be tempted to try this myself with white from time to time, were it not for 10...Ng8!? which actually scores pretty well and resembles a good advanced French for black. Curiously Smerdon has not mentioned this move in any of his updates, and it is not clear to me what is white's most promising way to proceed. By the way GM Chris Ward recommended this 10...Ng8!? line in an Anti-Sicilian video he did years ago for Foxy Video.

That does sound somewhat curious.  I know that 10...Ng8 has been addressed in some books over the decades.  For instance in Sizilianisch mit 3.Lb5(+) from the 1990s, IM (and 3. Bb5[+] specialist) Rainer Kraut called it interesting and gave a couple of lines leading to equality.

Smerdon has some nice coverage of what I like to call the two result system:

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.Bb5+ Bd7 4.Bxd7+ Qxd7 5.0-0 Nf6 6.Re1 Nc6 7.c3 e6 8.d4 cxd4 9.cxd4 d5 10.e5 Ne4.

Hopefully Smerdon will see this post or someone will bring it to his attention, and he will explore this line in a future update.

Dave has suggested many important new moves, perhaps the most well-known is his 7...g5 in the 3...Nd7 Moscow which was used by Topalov to beat Carlsen.

Edit: Looks from the preview like Jones covers 7.Bc4 in the March update.

You mean Smerdon covered it in March.  And in Nov. 2014, and Oct. 2014 ...

Don't know, but van Kampen analyses 7.Bc4 in depth in his Chess24 video series.

GM Gawain Jones in a must win last round with White in Dubai Open 2016 essays the Moscow Var in the Sicilian Bb5 and won. An Australian blogger said it was a Smerdon novelty. Cannot get the pgn of game at the moment, perhaps someone can post the game?

The most up-to-date must be Dave Smerdon's section at http://www.chesspublishing.com/content/5/index.htm, and probably the best explanation, too.

Thanks for the replies.

I have done some checking of reviews and ChessPub threads and I've come the following order...

1) Kornev. Most up to date, and I like the compactness of the Chess Stars books which make them ideal for carry around. Coverage of the KIA (which I play) and the Moscow (which I don't) is a bonus.

2) Bologan DVD. I must be somewhat of a Bologan fan boy and I like his no nonsense lecture style. Smiley

I might not read a much of my books, but I do watch my DVDs, sometimes more than once. I like this method of absorbing ideas and refresher's.

3) Bologan book. Covers just the Rossolimo, so I think would be a useful additional reference.

4) Jones. I've seen some good reviews, especially with Gawain's explanation of ideas, but not sure if it is necessary after the other 3.

Right, I think I'll be well set up to decimate the Sicilian! (http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/chess/YaBB.pl?num=1440845201)

@rdc You are thinking of this book by Gawain Jones:

https://www.everymanchess.com/starting-out-sicilian-grand-prix-attack

And this is the book he wrote on the rossolimo/Moscow:

@RdC You must be thinking of a different book. How to Beat the Sicilian Defense is a repertoire based on the Moscow, Rossolimo, and 3.d3 against 2...e6.

I don't have either the Bologan book or DVD, but generally I find that he explains concepts quite well which is very useful for me. I do have the Jones book and the Kornev book and they are both quite good. I would say that the Kornev book goes into more depth than Jones which seems unnecessary at times.
Apart from the resources you mentioned, the new series from Van Kampen is probably worth considering as well. I don't have it (yet) but I learned a lot from his previous series on the KID.

I have been considering:

How to Beat the Sicilian Defence by Gawain Jones (2011)

Gawain's book was more about playing 1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. Bb5 with ideas of following up with f4 and an assault on the King-side in the manner of the Grand Prix Attack.

There's at least one assuming trick.

In the line 1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Nd4 4. Bc4 e6 5. Nge2 Nf6 6. O-O a6 7. d3 then 7. .. d5 doesn't work because of 8. exd5 exd5 9. Nxd5 Nxd5 10. Nxd4 cxd4 11. Qh5 where 11. .. Be6 can be met by 12. Re1

Those who play the Sicilian now know it and play 7. .. b5 instead.

I have been considering:

The Sicilian Rossolimo for White (DVD) by Victor Bologan (2010)
The Rossolimo Sicilian by Victor Bologan (2011)
How to Beat the Sicilian Defence by Gawain Jones (2011)
Rossolimo and Friends by Alexei Kornev (2015)

Are the first 3 out of date now and would it be best to dive in just with Kornev?
