A bit of a side point: Has anybody used Lemos' recent "Deep Dive" video series on the (Hyper) Accelerated Dragon? Any views, positive or negative?

It is 8 hours, so quite long for a DVD, but you still get less analysis than in a book, of course.

Obviously it'd be wrong to quote the book in detail, but I guess 10 Nc2 is the major challenge and it'd be interesting to know a bit in general terms about his response to that. Iturrizaga seems to confidently play 10 ...Be6!? here, but then how best to proceed if White prevents ...Nd7 with 11 f4?

I think that i'll get the book very soon anyway, but i'd appreciate to hear what is the author's main idea in the Classical Marozcy nightmare!

2.Nf3 g6 3.c3 d5 (Panjwani actually prefers the move order with 3...Nc6) 4.exd5 Qxd5 5.d4 Nc6!?
2.c3 d5 3.exd5 Qxd5 4.d4 g6

Interesting. I wonder what the point of 3...Nc6 is.

He likes the delayed Rossolimo 4.Bb5 with Black, especially if White is an Alapin player.

Interesting. I wonder what the point of 3...Nc6 is. Maybe to avoid some of White's little-known but still annoying early alternatives?
Like 3...d5 4.Bb5+ and 3...d5 4.exd5 Qxd5 5.Na3.

is the chapter about the Breyer line convincing? I thought about playing like this several times, but it just looks to me as if Black weakens his position for no benefit and from there has to grovel - statistics seem to confirm this

He is offering interesting stuff. I have been looking at it and have not found any obvious holes, yet. He did omit one line that Greet had thought was better for white (I am not sure, but I wonder whether he did not use "Starting out: The Accelerated Dragon", at all, as a source?!), but it does not actually look like a major problem line to me.

Interesting review, thanks for sharing.

Incidentally, the reviewer is someone I know and have played...maybe I should be prepping for the Accelerated Dragon next time I'm paired with him  Cheesy

There is a review:
http://chess.ca/newsfeed/node/963

It sounds like the book is absolutely fantastic!
The Yugoslav variation with a6 certainly looks like a lot of fun and almost all White players will be on their own very soon...

I still have two questions to somebody who has the book:
  • what is his recommendation against the Alapin (I guess he writes about 2.Nf3 g6 3.c3, not 2.c3)?
  • is the chapter about the Breyer line convincing? I thought about playing like this several times, but it just looks to me as if Black weakens his position for no benefit and from there has to grovel - statistics seem to confirm this

Agree, I bought it with an eye towards possibly playing the AD again sometimes and I enjoy the presentation and ideas a lot. Whether it all holds up to, who knows, but at least I did not stumble across any holes or obvious omissions in books to check (he seems to have done his homework).

I browsed the book again and I am stunned by the many new and original analysis. But since the AD is not in my current repertoire I put the book aside for later. I cannot judge the theoretical value of it, but I found the book very, very interesting!

7...Qa5  8.0-0 0-0 9.Nb3 Qd8!
It seems to me that White's extra tempo is relevant enough for a small plus after 10.Re1 plan Bf1, Bg5 and Nd5. I can't see why this would be more attractive than 7...O-O 8.Bb3 d6 inviting a Yugoslav Attack with an early Bb3 for White (9.f3 Bd7 10.Qd2).
Note that in the Dragon Proper 10.Bb3 is far less popular than 10.O-O-O and 10.h4 and still that's what Black very well may get via the AD.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

Panjwani gives 9...Nxd4 10.Bxd4 Bd7 11.Qd3! a6!? (11...Bc6?!12.b4!+=; 11...a5 12.b3! Bc6 13.a3) 12.b4! Therefore he thinks 9...Bd7 is significantly better. 10.Nc2 Rc8! 11.f3 Be6! and ends with +=, but gives a very good explanation about that.

That looks curious.  So 9...Bd7 should lead to +=; 9...Nxd4 is significantly worse, but after that and an additional dubious move by Black, it is also +=.

I am no expert on the AD and am currently not working on the book, so all I can say right now is: buy the book and enjoy the many variations and explanations!

The author explains very well why he refuses to evaluate the AD on static grounds alone and often uses evaluations like "counterplay" or "mutual chances". See the Introduction.

I got the book today but didn't check it deeply. The first thing I noticed was the thinness of the book but when I opened it I realised why it is so - the paper is thin and slippy: great quality and I didn't expect it when buying TP book. You probably noticed from the excerpt that a layout inside is better than in casual TP books. So first impressions are good!
