True. Even Anand couldn't remember it all.

In fairness, Khalifman's 1 e4 repertoire was, what, fourteen volumes?

Geez...ECO handled it in less than that, and this is just a single repertoire. (Isn't this more detailed than Avrukh's GM Rep 1 and 2?)

I propose three possibilities for such a massive QC effort:

(1) The customers are using it as a reference during online games.
(2) The customers are consciously thinking as collectors and know that they will own its bulk but not use it.
(3) The customers unconsciously feel they are buying beef.

Didn't anyone tell these guys that good writing is concise?

I entirely agree, I know writing is a creative process, but it seems that they mistake Shaw's book's publication dates by a very wide margin. They seem much more accurate with other authors. Curious.

Jacob recently commented that the team focus on completing books by other authors over their own (and John probably does a lot of that work)- but that they are now prioritising Shaw's book over other titles.

Still doesnt fully explain such long delays on Shaw's titles, but might help a little

We germans have a coming airport in Berlin, called BER. Buildung it up started 2006. It should open for flights in 2012. The official launching date has been changed several times. Now it's projected in 2020 and you will only find a minority to bet on this here.

This book the the BER of chess books.  Cheesy

It's slightly absurd to have ostensibly a Part 1 & 2 Repertoire Series spread so far apart. I understand the difficulties, but still.

It's funny to look at this QC publishing schedule from 2012 -- http://www.qualitychess.co.uk/blog/1017 . So many other books on the list seem pretty old by now Smiley

They expected Shaw's King's Gambit in May/June -- and both 1.e4 books in July!!

I don't think I have ever seen an author whose work gets pushed back as much as John Shaw. I love his books but he is the George R R Martin of chess authors.

The book maybe delayed even further since the Tarrasch against the French has been undergoing a bit of a crisis in recent months, which in turn has probably prompted constant updates and re-writes. Even IM Reinier Castellanos has had to update his Tarrasch recommendations for his Positional Repertoire against the French database offered on modern-chess.com, and note that the original database was released December 2017!

How ya like dem apples.

I'm curious - what line was it that he had to update?

I refer specifically to the following line and all transpositions that lead to it:

1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2 c5 4.exd5 Qxd5 5.Ngf3 cxd4:

White is really struggling to show even a nibble here theoretically, although his overall score remains ok. I think this is often due to the rating difference between players, than any objective merits in White's position.

I really really hope that Shaw does not fall back on: 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2 c5 4.exd5 Qxd5 5.dxc5 Qxc5 6.Ngf3 Nf6 7.Bd3 Nbd7 8.0-0 Qc7 That would be a really depressing prospect for ambitious White players.

Buh-bye for now.

Interesting. Reminds me of The Doors song 'The End', and interpretations thereof.

Back to chess - looking forward to the book. Massive, complex, evolving topic, so it will take them time...

And we are close to the end of Playing 1.e4,

This could also mean that the results were so depressing they decided to never play 1.e4 in their life again Grin

Today news from Jacob Aagaard in their blog:
Quote:
Roiz is playing a few events, but is close to the end. And we are close to the end of Playing 1.e4, so it will come at a time where we have a lot of editors available. I predict a lot of books coming out in 2018.

It means something when he writes "close to the end" in case of this book.
