hey All,

What's the current state of Lowenthal? I've decided to make this my new project for tournament play. As a working adult, i just don't have time to compete in memory contests with the kiddies.

Anyone know what the current mainline is? There doesn't seem to be any consensus among top players as to what the mainline is. This likely due to its rarity. Anyway, i'll keep posting as I uncover questions. I'm around 2100 USCF, so even though i'm handing my opponents the bishop pair, it should not matter. The games likely to be decided on some tactics.

I also just purchased the chessbase 60 min Trainer on the lowenthal. It's for white.

I think Quality Chess Publishing more or less closed the chapter on the Lowenthal as a viable system. Perhaps it can be still employed occasionally as a surprise weapon or in Blitz and Rapid.

Good luck.

Hi.

John Shaw has some coverage in his 1.e4 repertoire. Haven't checked with computer but in terms of ideas it looked impressive.

Maybe something the kiddies might play anyway. Wink

Have a nice day

I'd say 10.Bg5 Be6 11.Nd5, which sees White scoring over 71%. However in some games Black developed fine counterplay with the pawn sac ...e4 clearing square e5 for a knight. This is what I'd play in a corr. game.
