New Video Format by Simon Williams

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share some feedback regarding the new videos accompanying the monthly updates.

I've been a ChessPublishing subscriber in the past and recently re-subscribed after several years away. While I have always appreciated the quality of the written analysis, I sometimes found it demanding to extract the most important practical lessons from a deeply annotated game.

The addition of Simon Williams' videos has significantly improved my experience.

Interestingly, I wasn't necessarily expecting this. I was already familiar with Simon's work elsewhere (Chessable), and his style had not always been a perfect match for what I personally look for in chess instruction. However, in this format, I think he brings something extremely valuable.

What I particularly appreciate is that he does not try to replace the author's work. Instead, he presents and discusses the author's ideas in a respectful and thoughtful way, highlighting important themes, practical decisions, and promising directions for further study. Rather than providing ready-made solutions or "magic" opening weapons, he helps the viewer understand what is worth investigating and why.

For me, these videos act as a bridge between the author's detailed analysis and my own study process. They make it easier to identify the key takeaways before diving deeper into the annotations.

The written content remains the heart of ChessPublishing, of course, but I feel that these videos add considerable value to the subscription and make the material more accessible without sacrificing depth.

I also wanted to ask whether this video format is intended to be a permanent feature of the site. I sincerely hope it is, because it has become one of the aspects I value most in the new ChessPublishing experience and it will certainly be a factor when I decide whether to renew my subscription next year.

Many thanks to Simon, the authors, and everyone involved in the recent improvements to the site.
