This is weird, but there are fewer votes so far than in the Linares poll.  Where is everyone?  (Or does limiting it to members really make that much of a difference?)

I haven't bought any of these books, so I didn't vote.

Voting about Linares is easier than voting about books I haven't read.  Wink

I only own one of these books so feel it unfair to vote against the others (which I haven't read).
Two are repertoire books with different first moves, so I'm guessing a lot of people, like me, wouldn't own them both. The third is a bit specialist.

Maybe it's possible to vote as a 'fan' of a book (that you own) or system rather than the actual worth of the book in comparison to the others. But not sure 'book of the year' is usually a popularity contest.
My guess is Marin's English book will win  Roll Eyes.

Bumping the thread again, to ensure it doesn't disappear from the top 20 threads during the voting period.

For the record, I voted for Agdestein's Stonewall book. I was originally intending to vote for Marin's work but changed my mind shortly after I learned that Marin's 1.c4 repertoire will be in 3 volumes (not that I have anything against this decision).

Obviously we can't see the votes, but I suspect that it will be a rather close poll.

Why would this make you change your mind?

Why are there only three options? Weren't there a lot more at one stage?

Yes, there are only three options because these are the three finalists.  You must vote in this poll for your vote to count even if you voted in the earlier poll.

Darn it! I voted for Win with the Stonewall Dutch. At least it came in second.

The voting was close all the way through.

Congratulations to Mihail Marin!

Even though I voted for another book, I've been inspired to read two other books by Marin lately.

Ok, what do we do now?

At Quality Chess we are very proud that our core audience decided to pick not only one, but two of our very few 2009 titles to be in the top three. Thank you.

Well, I voted for Marin. But I am impressed at how well the Stonewall book did. It makes me almost want to run out and buy it.

What do other organizations that have such polls do when the result is known?  At the very least, it is worth some bragging rights as I see Quality Chess has already broad-casted the result on their blog. That at least shows that opinion of this board is valued. Maybe Tony would agree to give one year Gold membership as a token on chesspublishing.com to the winning author.

One other idea may be to write a composite review on the book and have a prominent link on the front page of the chesspub.com and chesspublishing.com websites, assuming Tony consents of course. Let those who voted give short reviews of the book and let someone take charge of pulling it all together in one central review. Already, many publishers and writers come to this board to discuss or defend their books. This award could be used as a tool to further  raise the profile and influence of the board and by extension of chesspublishing.com
