C03,C10-C11: Is the Fort Knox a poor Caro-Kann?

C08:Tarrasch 3...c5 4.exd5 Qxd5 - Kasparov's 8.Re1
In Astana 2001, Kasparov played the Tarrasch against Gelfand. Gelfand chose the solid 4...Qxd5 line but Kasparov was first to surprise with 8.Re1!?
