Got the book last friday and got stuck into it during the weekend. So far I have only gone through the first 3 chapters and the one on Nxc6.
So far I am very impressed, but of course have to wait until I can test this in practice. Some points about the book:
-The basics such as an index, layout etc are good.
-I love the format used, with the "quick repertoire", details and games. It is a bit similar to the "starting out" format, though I like this better. The quick repertoire is especially helpfull for people like me who are entirely new to the opening. Only disadvantage I found was that sometimes you have to leaf forward or back to check a sideline or comment.
-The analysis together with textual advice look very good.
-When they feel insecure they tell so and give alternatives (though sometimes just 2 moves).
-At first I thought the game comments were a bit few, but the more I played through them the more I am beginning to backtrack on that. Especially the Delchev games provide quite some extra insight, due to him giving personal comments as well.
-I have one criticism on the notation. Checks and captures are never indicated. This can be a bit confusing when not using the board to check sidelines/comments.

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

We recommend 3.Nc3 against the French. I'm sure we'll offer a discount for both French volumes when bought together.  624 pages in one book would have form a heavy brick to work with. Khalifman pointed out that some people might need only one of the books. Volume six covers 3.Nc3 Nf6, 3...de4 while volume seven deals with 3.Nc3 Bb4.

What is your email address?  I have something to discuss about this line in the Sicilian and an unusual Sicilian variation I play as Black that is very very similar to the set-ups you suggest in your book (which I bought already), but a different move order from the one given in the book.   I don't want to post it here since I would still like to keep my secret weapon a surprise and a secret weapon.  Placing it on the forum here would not help me.  Could you please leave me a private message or post your email here?

ErictheRed,

I'm in the US as well. Yesterday I ordered the Delchev book from "chessbooksfromeurope," a store on eBay.

Tinyurl link to the book on ebay: http://tinyurl.com/btd9y

The store only offers media mail; however, I asked for priority mail and the owner quickly upgraded my shipping for a couple of bucks more.

I'd like to buy this book, and I'm curious about where the cheapest place to get it would be (I'm a student in the USA).  I usually buy books from amazon.com (or used from Ebay) because they offer various discounts.  Will www.amazon.com carry this book?  Will the USCF offer a discount to members or anything like that?  Thanks!

What is Khalifman recommending in Anand 6 & 7 to combat the French....is it the Tarrasch or 3.Nc3.

Khgalifman just wants money it seems through his analysis is so good i would pay 40$ a volume.  I only have the book that covers the alekhine through as I dont play e4.

The material on the French Defence turned out to be more than 600 pages. So Khalifman decided to divide it on two volumes - 6 and 7. I'll post the index of variations of Anand 7 tomorrow at our site.

I've just received the book through the mail. I'll make a separate posting on my first impressions, because it is too good to be buried so deep in this thread.

Perhaps they are waiting for Anand 7 which is due in 10 days. (Anand 7 will appear 2 weeks before Anand 6, but that is another story)

Hi Semkov,
Will book 7 finally start with the Sicilian? (I can't wait too  Cool)

Sorry for that annoying "distributing" label at our site. The reason is that the air cargo company lost the shipment halfway to Boston. Fortunately yesterday it popped up in London and today the books arrived at USA. So in a day or two I expect to offer them at last.
As to Europe, Van Stockum also got his order yesterday and should be offering the book soon. Only from Sweden and Spain nobody cared to order yet, but only you - the readers - could influence your local vendors. Perhaps they are waiting for Anand 7 which is due in 10 days. (Anand 7 will appear 2 weeks before Anand 6, but that is another story)
