Really? Then find out how many music talents (especially the piano) were named Rubinstein - more than chess talents.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

BOTH of Fischer's parents are Jewish and look at him (turns out his father was Jewish too, at least according to CIA reports).

You are right though, Spassky is not Jewish, a bio had that wrong. "Boris Spassky told its authors that there is "no truth" to the widely reported claim that his mother was Jewish."

Edit: Still, the rest are as well as many others and that is quite impressive.

Well, regarding Spassky I'm still doubtful. If his mother was jewish would he be saying such things a in the link below - & would Fischer still talk to him??  Grin

Various sources, but concerning Spassky: Mother Orthodox Jewish, Father Russian Orthodox.

Edit: Silman is also Jewish (he has stated this in book reviews).

First answer was right, they are all Jewish or had Jewish parents.

I don't think Spassky, Smyslow or Reti were jewish - or am I wrong?

Maybe they all are in the Chess Hall of Fame? (sounds like a good bet) or born on the same day or in the same sign? (a long shot but too lazy to check it...)

Anyway, my attempt at cheating by consulting google resulted in the following page:

http://us.share.geocities.com/wallw_99/trivia5.htm too lazy to check if the all are mentioned, but there are some interesting stories where whole lifes are summarised in a few sentences. Janowsky and Junge were two of the ones that cauht my attention...
