Emanuel mentioned in his tournament report that he should've played 15.Nxd4! 'with at least an edge', instead of the defensive Bxd4?.

I don't like ...c6 against the Austrian, which tends to invite e5 without preparing counterplay against d4. The only exception I can think of is 4 f4 Bg7 5 Nf3 0-0 6 Be3 c6, when e5 is met by ...Ng4 hitting the bishop, though even here White can just play h3 if worried. After 4 f4 c6 I propose White borrow an idea from the 150 Attack: 5 Qf3!? If 5...b5 6 a3!? Qb6 7 e5 - e5 is coming anyway, one way or another.

Well, 62 examples of 4 ...c5, and 40 of 5 ...Qa5, on ChessLive ... One of the culprits is Ufimtsev!

Isn't 7 Qd5! just a complete and clean killer? -- it's amazing this nonsense has been played so often! Can't say I fancy (2) much, either, whether with 5 ...Nc6 or 5 ...d5. But (1) looks of some interest, with Gurgenidze intentions. Maybe MNb has some info on this?

Indeed, I would think that (3) is refuted by 5. dc Qa5 6. cd Nxe4 7. Qd4.

Can anyone provide some info on the following lines? --

(2) 4 ...Bg4 (5 Nf3 c6 leading to (1), or else 5 ...Nc6!?)

(3) 4 ...c5 (5 dc Qa5 -- but this looks like a bridge too far!)
