In fact 7.Na4 is the most promising continuition for white.
As a bonus, neither Davies nor Marin have adressed this variation properly. Both missed a variation discovered by Olivier Renet.
Only subscribers of chess publishing have the inside track to a very unpleasant variation for black to meet.... Wink

I'm curious, do the subscriber files contain many updates/corrections to
"The Fascinating King's Gambit" ? I may possibly subscribe if
they do. This book was brilliant!

Absolutely right on the money. I have downloaded the playable king's Gambit file and it is very good. I have some more variations to add to this. If I can fathom out how to update my personal copy I will do so. Then I will send it to the forum.

I am hopelessly addicted to the King's Gambit

Indeed.   Cool

I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission.

Very funny,  Grin, but as he finally has asked a concrete question I will answer it seriously. Of course we should not rely on Davies nor on Marin, but on a KG-authority: Thomas Johansson. I cite: "7.h3 is not supposed to give white any advantage and is usually ignored by theory. However, it's not uncommon in practice and may actually be under estimated."
He thinks White might prove an edge after 8...exf4 but thinks 8...Nd4 unclear. If you want to know more, buy The Fascinating King's Gambit, the most thorough KG research of the last few decades.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

After 1 e4 e5 2 f4 Bc5 3 Nf3 d6 4 Nc3 Nf6 5 Bc4 Nc6 6 d3 Bg4 7 h3 Bxf3 8 Qxf3 Nigel Davies gives 8...Nd4 in Play 1 e4 e5 but Milhail Marin in Beating the Open Games gives 8...exf4, saying 8...Nd4 is innacurate. Is 8...Nd4 innacurate or is it ok for black. Also, is 8...exf4 ok for black?
