I totally agree with you Lee. On the other hand I prefer as white to play against the modern than the Kieseritzy Gambit. I have improvements over book for white versus the modern.

KG modern defense / pseudo Falkbeer

If I wish to play the modern defense to the KG, is there any benefit / problem if i feint a falkbeer counter gambit before transposing?  1...e5 is my secondary defense to 1.e4 for those times I need a win or otherwise want a tactical game (i play the caro-kann when a draw is acceptable).  I am just now starting to play in the 1800 USCF range, so i guess most of my opponents for the next few years will be 1800-2200.  If I would be better off playing the Falkbeer countergambit to increase winning chances at this level, please explain.

1. e4 e5   2. f4 d5   3. exd5 exf4 

or

1. e4 e5   2. f4 exf4   3. Nf3 (Bc4, Nc3) d5
