Just a question, since this has been my preferred response to the Scotch since taking up 1...e5 against 1.e4 from time to time.  I notice that in most recent threads relating to the Scotch the focus has been entirely on 4...Nf6, when White should continue with 5.Nxc6 bxc6 6.e5 Qe7 7.Qe2 with complex play.

Has 4...Bc5 been refuted or proven dubious lately?  I always had the impression that 5.Nxc6 Qf6 (5...bxc6!? may also be playable, as I saw on a recent Chesspub.com article) was generally fine for Black, e.g. 6.Qd2 dxc6 7.Nc3 when Black has 7...Qe7, 7...Ne7 and 7...Bd4 for instance.  Meanwhile 5.Be3 Qf6 6.c3 Nge7 7.Bc4 and Black has 7...Ne5, 7...0-0, and another alternative in 7...b6 (preparing queenside castling) that seems to be neglected but scores well.   And if 5.Nf5!? then I thought Black had dangerous gambit responses based on playing ...d5, and meeting Nxg7+ with Kf8, Nh5 Qh4.
