If this is the worst that can happen in the Mac, then "Go for it!". The position is unbalanced and the stronger player has the better chances - what more can you get after 7 moves with Black?

8 Qg4 Qa5 as in Brendel-Glek, 2004. It's annotated in McDonald's book.

Hi chaps

I have been experimenting with the McCutcheon. I ran into a little area which wasnt covered in Moskalenko's book and which to me seems like a very annoying line.
Usually I am happy with white's exchange lines as they promise easy equality with scope to outplay your opponent. However this one kept me puzzled:
1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 Bb4 5.exd5
and now
5... Qxd5 6.Bxf6 Bxc3 7.bxc3 gxf6
or
5.. exd5 6.Qf3 Be6 7.Bxf6 Qxf6 8.Qxf6 gxf6
In both cases I can draw it, but it isnt really entertaining to be black to use an understatement, in particular the last line. So any ideas in these lines?

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.
