well, in amazon.co.uk it has been avaliable since October 15th.

in order to buy it quickly I would check the NIC store
(which appears advertised in chessvibes.com) or
in chess direct or the British chess shop.

Amazon is not reliable for recently published since they
advertise they already have it and do not.

Thanks for that...I have preordered from Amazon before and was disappointed with the time it took for delivery. I'll check out the NIC store

Looks interesting, and appears to be commendably objective.  But I also notice that it's small, with only 125 pages preceding the index.

I'll certainly buy it and I expect it'll be valuable, but from the look of it I don't expect it to be very comprehensive.

I believe that this is an effect of the format. It is not intended to be comprehensive, but rather to give guidance towards the critical lines as well as explaining the ideas for both sides. I have two books in the chess explained-series, The English by Franco and The main line Slav by Vigorito. I must say that both are excellent, and especially the latter has given me confidence to play these lines despite the impression that they are quite theoretical. Books in this series build on a rather limited number of games, and the lines played in these games are naturally covered in much more detail than other lines. It will not be another "The complete alekhine", but it can be very valuable allt he same.

Well, one guesses it would be like "chess explained: the gruenfeld".
I looked at the postscript and it fits what I was expecting.
Anyway, I think it will be a (very) good and instructive read.
Here are a couple of comments:
i) The old main line (4...Bg4) and the new main line
(4....dxe5) take almost the same number of pages.
ii) Games in Miles are quite curious (although, I noticed in his Gruenfeld book, that quite often, the main line of a variation is not the line played in a shown game.
iii) Game in Alburt has the Vaganian move 6...c6 after
5. Bc4 - I am expecting some analysis on 6....Nb6
and see his opinions on this
iv) One thing I already noticed in C0x's book is that these satarting out books sometimes contain refutations of very old analysis. Here, after 4. Be2,
there is an old analysis by Kupreichik ending with 14...Ba3 and Black is Ok. Here, Bogdanov refutes it
with 15 Nb1!.

So, as I said in a previous post, for shaking the waters
I am looking forward to Taylor's book and will
keep in mind the CBM surveys.

But this book, seesm quite interesting and if it is like
his Gruenfeld, it will be a nice addition

Pdf excerpt from Bogdanov now avaiable at Gambit homepage.

Looks very good: instructive and good general assessments.
But maybe we shouldn´t expect too much hardcore theory.
It´s obviously a "Chess Explained: The Alekhine Defence".

You are right, it really looks very good.
I am quite impatient to buy the book  Wink

Yusupov once said that “The problem with the Dutch Defence is that later in many positions the best move would be ...f5-f7” but he is surely wrong.

Leafed through the article in NIC Yearbook. It is on the aggressive line after 5...exd6 with Qf3, which Emanuel Berg has specialized in. The main thing is probably that the line recommended by Cox with f7-f5 is considered slightly adventorous/dubious, but other equalizing lines are given. Can't say I consider this lint too topical, but it is fun for both players with castling on opposite sides. Still 5...cxd6 feels like the principal continuation.

I noticed that in the last NIC yearbook they have the new article

Alekhine’s Defence Exchange Variation 5.ed6 - AL 7.3 - Finkel

Any one knows the topics discussed? Thanks.

I thought nobody was playing it either until I ran across it a few times in European events this summer (still a rare visitor though). Cox seemed edgy about it and recommended an earl...c5, ....g6 in his book as a way to avoid the main lines (as I recall, I am sure I will be shot down if I am wrong). The reason it seems that many White players do not play it is because too much theory running too many moves deep must be learned to face an opening that may pop up against them only once or twice in 50 games as Black. This is not only from my own observation but also from written comments by GMs I have run across these past few months.

Personally I think that Black stands well enough after 6...Nc6.  Post some 4PA lines that you think are a problem for Black, and I will rejoin.

Really?  I don't think that the Four Pawns Attack is so terrible after 6...Nc6.  How can it be giving Black a hard time when nobody plays it?

Why go through all the bother of learning a complex system for an opening you face once a year, when the main line promises a good game as well, without all the effort?

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.
