Short plays the Advance Caro-Kann and 3.Nc3 against the French. Sveshnikov plays the Advance French and the Panov Attack. I understand the question, but I don't think strong players worry about having a "consistent" repertoire: they just play the lines they like. The lines they like will probably have some things in common, but that's not really the point. Searching for consistency is what we patzers do. I've done it myself, but it's not constructive.

I am wondering if you play the advanced against Caro-Kann does it mean that you have to play it against the French as well? In other words, how inconsistent is playing the advanced against Caro-Kann and 3.Nc3 or 3.Nd2 against the French?
