How did he write and arrange so many good songs if he's not even an acceptable musician according to you.

And why would you pay dearly for concert tickets to hear him if that's how you feel about his music.

No, seriously, we need an ignore button. Bye.

MNb can be forgiven, as criticism from someone with such a bad taste in music would be the same as two minus becoming a plus. ;)

@troll

1) the topic is Dylan covers so you're off topic

2) On Youtube trolls love to find, for example, a popular rare video with the Beatles which everybody likes and then add some comments about how they're all just a bunch of junkies who couldn't really play. And then they enjoy the feedback...

3) It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe.

I will forget 1 and 2 with mildness.
3 shows that you don't know anything about playing the harp. Breathing is the first step. Dylan blows and sucks (no pun intended! - take only the describing meaning of the word) the harp.

And that never happens to you?
Btw I largely agree with Jupp, but as you already know that I don't see any point in repeating it.
(where I disagree is that I don't think Mr. Zimmermann a particularly good songwriter either; he is a poet - now I do have repeated it  Lips Sealed)

@Taljechin:

You may not like this. But it's nothing trolling in my post.

I remember a Dylan concert in Frankfurt where after an hour about a fifth of the audience has left the hall. The price for the ticket was high as probably was Dylan. Possibly he didn't hit the note of his own songs once in this hour. And his singing and guitar play didn't fit in pitch once in a song.

The comparison about the harmonica trials is a citation. As someone liking blues harp players and having tried to work on my harp play regualarly several hour per week on the harp I can assure you: There is one (1) fan site of Bob's harmonica trials (sorry, when hearing him I get horripilation meanwhile) and this is really remarkable. I never met someone having played the harp for two years liking his sound and I met a lot of harp players over the years.

And how is it trolling, if I like his great songwriting. There are some good performances from him with other artists. But you must be a fan(atic) of Bob Dylan to speak of him as an acceptable musician. This means that he maybe a good or excellent performer sometimes. I like some performances with The Band. But Dylan had excellent musicians in the background being able to translate his performance into music.

Edit: Just after finishing this post I read in a news reader a hint to a really trolling article in the NME.

The cover database was a good resourse. (The top list of the other site was rather terrible.)
It ain't no use to sit and wonder why Bob Dylan was often so cruel to his audience in public concerts. Babe, it don't matter anyhow, because he's one of the greatest songwriters ever.

And it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe, some people don't listen to what a bad live musician he he was, if you don't know by now.

When your rooster crows at the break of dawn it's more beautiful than Bob's singing and guitar play.

Look out your window and I’ll be gone if Bob mistreats the beautiful blues harp.

You’re the reason I’m trav’lin’ on, Bob. Your dog plays the harp better than you do.

Don’t think twice, it’s all right.

How about bringing back that nifty feature we had a while back, were you could ignore some of the trolls/contributors and thus be spared seeing their posts?!

Btw, here's another link a friend of mine found - a list of some 32 500 Dylan covers. Presumably a record?

Great link, Taljechin! The article certainly has much to disagree with, and even more for me to discover. I'm not familiar with many of these covers.

Can't say I agree with the number 1, but there's a whole lot of good Dylan covers in the list!

What's the worst Dylan cover you ever had the misfortune to hear?

My vote would be on Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry's version of A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall it's so bad you actually suspect it's on purpose...

"Who did the worst version of All Along the Watch Tower? My vote goes to U2."

-- oooh...I don't know.  You haven't heard my version of it yet.  I'm pretty sure I can give U2 a run for their money when it comes to bad songs.

Which of the Dylan versions are we supposed to be voting (or not voting) for? I prefer Jimi's, but it is very close with Dylan's first.

Who did the worst version of All Along the Watch Tower? My vote goes to U2.

Infidels!

Dylan's version is clearly the best.  How can anyone dare challenge his overwhelming genius?
ahh...come to think of it the Hendrix version is more interesting tonally but I think the poetry of the lyrics is lost.
Dylan is an amazing songwriter and Hendrix was an amazing musician.
Either version is good for me.

If only Milt Jackson did a version on the vibes!  Then we'd have ourselves a jam.
