	I counted only the first three option, since the last two seemed more complicated! Probably a better interpretation is 29/29, but again for some strange reason "Best Book only" wasn't even an option. Lies, damn lies and statistics...

	Stigma, I didn't "reach a conclusion", I stated my preference. I'm not sure how you counted 25/29 though.

	@TalJechin The only reason I didn't nominate the "New in Chess - The First 25 years" is that it was published in 2009. If you are interested in chess history - recent history in this case - buy the book! It has some real gems in it like Miles' report from tilburg 1985 when he played lied down on a table, sosonko's obituary on Tal, some great interviews, chess politics etc. One of my favourite books from recent years

	One book I'm considering as X-mas gift to myself is: "New In Chess - The First 25 Years" - just happened to find out about the existence of the book, a moment ago. I think it was published close to the end of 2009, so it might be eligible for nomination if anyone's read it and thinks it deserves a nomination?

In the "poll on the poll" above at least 25 out of 29 voted to keep a separate opening book category, either alone or with a "best book" as well. Though for some reason "Best book only" wasn't even included as an option. I thought the main point of having a poll last year was that it was opening book only - doing something different from all the other "Book of the Year" polls that opening books rarely have a chance to win.

	The thread from last year was titled "Book of the Year", but it started out as "opening book of the year". I think we shouldn't worry about whether it's an opening book and just vote for the best book of the year. The main drawback of this is that there are already quite a few sites that have a chess book of the year, and chesspublishing.com tends to focus on opening books. Personally, I think we shouldn't dilute our voice with numerous choices. At least not this year. We should choose one book as the best book of 2010. We have until December 31st to finalise whether we have one or two books as our "book of the year", then we can get down to the final voting.

	I second Bonsai's recommendation of Squeezing the Gambits. It transcends the genre. After reading the chapter on the Benko I felt like I not only understood the opening better, but chess as a whole.

	If there are two polls I'm really in doubt where to put the Alterman book. Is it more about teaching dynamical play to players from 1100 - 1900 Elo or an introduction to some gambits? It's a strength and a weakness at the same time.

	Well, one wonders if there's any point of about 30 people voting for a book of the year... Still you did estimate that the winner wouldn't be chosen until 1st of March 2011 so maybe people are waiting for the December releases - or for the poll on the poll to finish, so I've shortened the remaining time. So far only 6 people have nominated books... 	Judging by the response so far, I think we should limit ourselves to one book this year. If there are enough nominations, we can run it like we did last year. If there are relatively few nominations, we can have a single round of voting.

	My book of the year is: The Alterman Gambit Guide - White Gambits by Boris Alterman It did not get the best reviews as an opening book but it got always excellent comments from players starting to learn some chess. Alterman mentions Neistadt in his book and it's a continuation of Neistadt's teaching for the 21st century.
