Can we have a poll about a poll about a poll? Suggestions?

TN, a poll doesn't make it so. If there aren't enough nominees, the point is moot anyway.

The final decision will come down to Tony. I'm sure we could persuade him one way or another, but the poll alone won't change things.

For all those suggesting two categories, are there any nominations for BOTH categories?

I didn't vote in favour of both categories, but since that is the likely occurrence, I nominate Grandmaster Repertoire:  1.d4, Volume 2 by GM Boris Avrukh.

There seems to be a majority for a two category poll, Best Opening Book and Best Chess Book

But only 18 voters - the interest is staggering...

Btw, since I'm bumping up the thread anyway, I might as well nominate a book as well: How to Play Against 1.d4 by Palliser.

I don't think there are enough great books this year for all these different categories.

How about

1. Best opening book for 2000- players and

2. best opening book forr 2000+ players

I think lower ranked players and higher ranked players evaluate quite different criteria for "best opening book".
I would guess e.g. most of the "Grandmaster Repertoire" are not very good for lower ranked players but highly appreciated by higher ranked players.

E.g I think lower ranked players evaluate (verbal desciption, plans, ideas) much more than higher ranked (more analysis and current status/lines).

What kind of proof is that?

Sorry, didn't realise those were the rules.

Opening books are like tears in the rain, though....

Alas, "Chess Duels" is not an opening book. Though I'm sure it's great, everybody has praised it.

I'd like to nominate Seirawan's 'Chess Duels'; I find this book fantastic on a number of levels.

Keep the same rules as last year.  If you change the rules each year, the poll becomes meaningless.

As a fan of the GM Repertoire series, I nominate the book 'Grandmaster Repertoire 7: The Caro-Kann' by Lars Schandorff.
