additionally you should also not overlook all the annotated games in the informants.

they contain all the theoretically relevant games played in the alekhine since the 1960's

your best theoretical resource would be to get a hold of the informants 1-100 version.

Tim Taylor just wrote a book on the alekhine btw.

I'm remember a very long time ago at a L.Christiansen simul someone asked him what he did to improve.  Among his answers was just going over lots of games very quickly.

Well, it gives a different perspective, and insight into how to play an opening. When the focus is primarily on the theory then the executions of plans and manoeuvres get ignored. A game can even be worthless theoretically and yet contain an idea that may be very useful to know about.

You can take a look at the megadatabase, there are
several AL games comented by John Cox, similarly
to what he did in his book and in here several years ago.
The comments are quite nice and make a nice addition
to his book
Problem is that his comments stop with 2006 games.

As Phil said, the book by Alburt is nice since it tells us
some of his motivations when selecting some of the variations. Pity, there is no Alburt book with his memories where we could see more.

Sanakojew's Der 3. Versuch has a couple of AL games too, a model game for White and a quite interesting Voronezh game.

Keres played the white side of it in 2 or 3 of the games in his collection.   Well commented but he played some less common lines against his opponents.

Just curious:

Aren't there enough commented Alekhine games in ChessPublishing, Chessbase databases and the Alekhine books by Burgess, Cox and Taylor? Would a game collection really add that much value? The personal perspective, perhaps...

Btw. I have Baburin's Winning Pawn Structures. It's basically a primer on IQP and "hanging pawns" positions (yes, the title is misleading), and full of QGAs and Nimzo-Indians and c3 Sicilians. I can't remember seeing a single Alekhine in there (well Alekhine the player is represented I think, but not the defence!).

Thanks Paddy,

it's decades since I looked in Zoom and then I was mainly interested in the Grunfeld, but I could try the library. And I think there's a big new tome on Larsen  in Danish - not sure if it's out yet though.

How about Baburin's Winning Pawn Structures any ALs in there? Probably unavailable anyway...

Btw, I noticed a book called Alexander Baburin subtitled: Schach, Grossmeister, Strahlenphysik but no reviews or contents or anything...

Other well known AL-players are Timman, Hort, Short (occasionally), Bagirov, Kengis - any good commented game collections on any of them?

Just revisited an old game anthology with among others Kortchnoi and Kurajica commenting on games they've played in the Alekhine.

It was so enjoyable to read that I'm wondering if anyone knows of other game collections with several Alekhine games commented by one of the players involved?

Ideally, it would be nice with a collection of a player who regularly plays the AL but I'm not sure if there is one who has also done a greatest games book... Maybe Kortchnoi's, but I think he left the AL in the late 1970s...

Test and Improve Your Chess by Alburt has 5 of his own Alekhine games with extensive notes. (It also contains 5 annotated Benko gambit games which I found very useful.)

I thought of Larsen's Selected Games of Chess 1948-69, but I find it has only two of Larsen's Alekhine games.

BTW, in Zoom 001 there are 16 Alekhine games lightly annotated by Larsen, but mostly not his own games.
