26. b5 Qf8 27. Kd2!? Ne7 28. fxg5 Bxg5 29. Qh5 Qg7
30. Kc2 Be6 31. Nc7 +-

The older, the better - over 2200 and still rising.

quiet round here so just had a quick look at this, crazy game.  Ke2 looks like a !! killer at first but maybe Black can hold with 28...Rxh2 29.Rxh2 Bg3 30.Qd4+ Qg7.

Everything else looks horrible...

25.Ke2 Rf7

[25...Rb7 26.b5 Ne5 (26...Be6 27.bxc6 Rg7+-; 26...Qe8 27.bxc6 Rb2+ 28.Kf1 Rxh2
29.Rxh2 Bg3 30.Rh5 Qe5 31.Ng2 Bxf4 32.Ngxf4 Rf5±) 27.fxe5 dxe5 28.Qb1 Qd6 29.Qxe4 Rbf7 30.Rxh4 gxh4 31.Rxh4 Rg7 (31...Bf5 32.Nxf5 Rxf5 33.Bd3+-) 32.Bd3+-]

26.b5 Qf8

[26...Bg3 27.Rh5 Be6 28.bxc6 Rb2+ 29.Kf1 Bxf4 30.Nxf4 Qf6 31.Rxh7+! Rxh7 32.Rxh7+ Kxh7
33.Qh5++-]

27.bxc6 [27.Rxh4 gxh4 28.bxc6 Rb2+ 29.Ke1 Qg7 30.Qd4÷]

27...Rb2+ 28.Kf1 Rxh2

[28...Rxf4+ 29.Kg1 Bf2+ 30.Rxf2 Rfxf2 31.Qd4+ Qg7 32.Qxe4 Rf7 33.Bd3] 29.Rxh2 Bg3 30.Qd4+ Qg7

Not fun trying to find that OTB.

Esserman's novelty in the Sveshnikov

OK, maybe Esserman doesn't get complete credit for this move, but I've never seen it played before. The move I'm talking about is 25.Ne2! in the h4-pawn sac line with 16. Ra2.

Has anybody seen this before and does anybody have a satisfactory response, because I put it through Stockfish and it looks pretty bad for black. I almost never give up on a system but this looks pretty forcing; it seems to refute 17...g6 altogether.

The main test seems to be 25...Rf7 26. b5 Qf8 27. bc6 Rb2+ 28. Kf1 Rxf4 29. Kg1 Bf2+ 30. Rxf2 Rfxf2 31. Qd4+ Qg7 32. Qxe4 and black is in a lot of trouble.

Here's the game:
