Looking at the databases, the move 7 ... b4 is almost automatic. You don't need to follow up with 8 .. Rb8 although it's the most popular choice. The immediate e5 is possible as is Bb7.

After 1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.g3 g6 4.Bg2 Bg7 5.d3 d6 6.Be3 b5!? seems possible as played by Tony Miles, my question is if White plays the cautious 7.Qd2 (7.e5!? Qd7 or 7.e5!? Bb7 looks playable for Black) is there a better plan or move than going b4 and Rb8 and transposing in the 6.Be3 Rb8 variation ?
