Maybe, but itīs always admirable if an author analyses something new and original. In this case Aveskulov opens an almost completely new chapter of Benko theory. As always in such cases only time will tell if it holds up to scrunity.

Instead he recommends to avoid the whole line with a deviation for Black at a very early stage which he analyses on 14 pages. Iīm not going to reveal it here since Gambit and Aveskulov for now have decided otherwise but it certainly looks interesting. For now I donīt have the time for a closer look.


So much new analysis, that it cannot be watertight. But it is an interesting try in blitz Wink

I thought that Aveskulov had made a promise to to update this...? At least someone said so on this site some time ago.

Yes Im old enough to get your point. But I thought we were talking about omission. And my point beeing that when the book is "outdated" ( in these 12.Qe2/ 12.a4 variations) in the moment its published, then I think a publisher ( and an author) with respect for himself will make things up and try to sort things out.  I guess thats why Aveskulov promised that update in the first place...?

I also bought the book. And I just sent Gambit an email about this. If its a fact that Aveskulov has updated the Kindle verison, and Gambit holds back the new material to the original book buyers, then its very bad costumer service in my opinion.   

Have to wait for an answer. and thx to

The problem with all these sophisticated set-ups against the Benko is that its easy to mess up the move order or find the correct continuation unless you are a super GM. So for the rest of us, Benko is still alive!

Just had a look now Nikos, very interesting. I have a feeling the ...Ra6 line may be decent against 12.a4 also, which is maybe why Carlsen went for the 12.Qe2  move order. 

In the analysis you gave I also like 14...Rc8!? for Black instead of 14...Qb7. With ideas ...Nb6 or ...c4. This might have been played in a recent game unless I've mixed the moves up and thats been known to happen.

I intend to have a proper look at this to discover the true implications and differences between the 12.Qe2 line and the 12.a4 line.
