After some months now I have to say I really like your 1.e4 e5 updates Tony! Smiley
Of course Victor also delivered high quality material, but it was clear that the focus was on the Black side and mostly "main line" openings.

Your coverage is much broader and at least for me much more interesting!

I think I will do the next one or two 1 e4 e5 updates myself

regarding which, perhaps change this bit at the bottom...

"or subscribers can write to Victor@ChessPublishing.com if you have any questions."

...unless you've taken over Victor's email account as well?

OK, as promised I've started a new thread, and spliced the relevant posts from here to there. Smiley

Victor has done a great job at ChessPublishing.

I also have his book on the Open Ruy Lopez. I pored over his coverage of the Bernstein variation, 9Nbd2, in particular the endgame that emerges after 12cxd.

I looked at several continuations and a pattern emerged. Victor claims black will equalize the game. The engine indicates an advantage to white, and continues to do so for several moves. Then. suddenly, it recalibrates and indicates equality. These are clear cases of Victor's understanding trumping the computer's scoring of tens of millions of positions. By the way, at my level either side can win that endgame.

I think I will do the next one or two 1 e4 e5 updates myself, if there are any lines that subscribers would like to see analysed, or variations that haven't received enough coverage recently, just let me know here and I might look at them. Wink

Yes, that was quite a surprise, I had no idea he wanted to stop, maybe it was a spur of the moment decision as he has left me little time to find a decent replacement. Sad

Victor Mikhalevski has announced that after a very long stint he is stepping down from producing the content for the CPub sections on the open games. He's always done a great job for us.

Thank you Victor - I'm sure that whoever replaces you will have a hard task in maintaining the standard you have set.
