According to John Nunn this plan is not accurate because White wins a tempo: after 19 ... e5 the rook goes directly to d2 wheras in the other variation White needs 2 moves to play Be3 and then Rd2 ...
I am not sure though whether this tempo is decisive here

Since Mifsud-Garcia,1994, it is known that 18.Bxd4 Nxb3+ 19.axb3 e5 favours Black. Why is this not playable after 18.Rxd4 ?

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

Another Velimirovic Question

I recently played the Velimirovic attack as a Black and was confronted with:

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 Nc6 6.Bc4 e6 7.Be3 Be7 8.Qe2 0-0 9.0-0-0 Qc7 10.Bb3 a6 11.Rhg1 Nd7 12.g4 Nc5 13. g5 Bd7 14. Qh5 Rfc8 15. Rg3 g6 16. Qh6 Bf8 17. Qh4 Nxd4 18. Bxd4!? ... and I got an unpleasent position. I think I can remeber that I have read somewhere that 18. Rxd4 is the right move here. However, it seems that Bxd4 is more logical. So is there something wrong with Bxd4? It seems that Black is in trouble, for example after 18 ... b5 19.Rh3 h5 20. gh Kh7 21. Qf6 .  ...
Okay I ve just seen that 21 ... Sb3+ 22. ab e5 23. Be3 b4 is  very strong for black ... wow  Shocked
