10...Kf8's indeed the move: it may look a little suspect, but White's hardly well co-ordinated and is faced with ...Nbd7, ...b5 and also ...Kg8, ..h6, ...Kh7 and ...Rhe8.

Thanks for the reply.  I have an Epishin-Gofstein game annotated by John Emms a couple of years ago but hadn't seen the Harikrishna-Cheparinov game which must have appeared after my subscription lapsed (obviously, it's time to renew the subscription!).

In the 8...Bg7 line, I didn't like the look of the endgame (or queenless middlegame?) after 9.e5 dxe5 10. Qxe5+ Qe7 11. Qxe7+ Kxe7 but hadn't given it (or the alternative 10...Kf8) much thought.

It's a little annoying, but still early days: White's no longer winning every game in this line... Not sure about 8...Qe7 though and 8...Bg4 still isn't fully resolved. IMHO 8...Bg7 may have been a little underestimated early on as Harikrishna-Cheparinov (annotated on ChessPub) pointed out!

1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 c5 4. d5 exd5 5. cxd5 d6 6. e4 g6 7. Nf3 a6 has become a popular line in the Benoni (7...a6 is the main repertoire recommendation in Watson's book).

Today in the Olympiad, Onischuk-Pantsulaia continued with
8. Qe2

and after 8...Qe7 9. e5 dxe5 10. Nxe5 Nbd7 11. Bf4 Nh5 12. Nxd7 Bxd7 13. Bc7 Rc8 14. d6 Qxe2+ 15. Bxe2 it looks like Black is really struggling.  I know 8.Qe2 is not a novelty, although I think it's a fairly recent development in the line.

Has anyone seen a good line/model game for Black here?  Is it time to toss 7...a6 in the trash bin and go back to 7...Bg7?  (Maybe it's time to take up the Queen's Indian?!)
